Anand: Farmers’ crops in Karamsad have suffered severe damage after polluted water from a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) located on the Karamsad–Sandesar Road in Anand district was allegedly discharged directly into agricultural fields. The incident has sparked serious concerns over the negligence of the Anand Municipal Corporation and the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB).
Farmers allege that untreated or inadequately treated wastewater has been released into nearby farmlands for a considerable period, despite repeated complaints. This has caused extensive damage to standing crops. Those who transplanted tomato saplings just three days ago now fear complete crop loss, as their fields have been flooded with contaminated water.
Holding municipal authorities and concerned officials responsible, farmers have accused them of administrative failure and violations of STP operational norms. They have questioned why polluted water, which should be properly treated and discharged through designated outlets, is being diverted into agricultural land. The continued silence and inaction of the GPCB have further intensified farmers’ anger and distress.
