The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF), which owns the iconic brand Amul, has been ranked as the world’s number one cooperative organization based on GDP per capita performance.
According to the ICA World Cooperative Monitor 2025 Report, Amul has surpassed IFFCO to become the No. 1 cooperative organization in the world. The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) — with an annual turnover exceeding ₹80,000 crore — has achieved this global recognition based on per capita GDP growth performance, as evaluated by the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) in its 2025 assessment.

Dr. Verghese Kurien established the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) in 1973, uniting around 18 milk producers’ unions across the state under one umbrella. Over the years, with the support of Amul, the federation has grown into a massive organization , a true banyan tree , earning international fame for its success and cooperative spirit.
