When Mr. Abhishek H. Mehta first joined the National Service Scheme (NSS), he carried a question in his mind—would he truly be able to contribute meaningfully, or even learn something valuable from it? Little did he know that this doubt would soon transform into one of the most remarkable journeys of his life. NSS did not just provide him opportunities—it gave him the power to write his own story and become the creator of his own path.
Like every new beginning, his journey came with challenges. At the start, he often found himself facing conflicts in ideologies and adjusting with seniors. But one thing never changed—his inner values. Abhishek always believed in service, kindness, leadership, and helping others, and it was this very spirit that drew him closer to NSS.

He did not join NSS for recognition, material gains, or status. For him, the eternal status of a volunteer lies in serving society under God’s guidance. The true reward was the smile on people’s faces, the warmth of gratitude from communities, and the deep satisfaction of working for public and team welfare.
Over time, NSS became not just an activity, but a way of life. It opened doors to experiences that shaped him as a person and a leader. He was honored to be selected among the Top 10 Speakers of GTU at the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament and to represent Gujarat on behalf of GTU at the 14th Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad.
But the most unforgettable milestone arrived in 2025—Abhishek was invited as a Special Guest for the Independence Day Ceremony at the Red Fort, Delhi, where only two NSS Volunteers were selected from the entire state of Gujarat. Standing among the nation’s dignitaries on this historic occasion was not just an honor for him, but also a recognition of the service spirit of every volunteer who works tirelessly for society. The proudest moment of all was meeting the Hon’ble Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya Ji, at his official residence in Delhi. That meeting was not just an event, but a memory etched forever in his heart—a reflection of how far the path of service had taken him.
Abhishek acknowledges that none of this would have been possible without the constant guidance and support he received throughout his journey. He expresses his heartfelt gratitude to the NSS Program Officer of Government Engineering College, Patan, Prof. N.K. Dabhi Sir, for his blessings and encouragement. He also conveys sincere thanks to the GTU NSS Coordinator, Shri Bharat Vadhiya Sir, for his mentorship and faith, and to the NSS Regional Team, Ahmedabad, for their continuous support. Above all, he extends immense gratitude to his NSS Family and his Parents, who stood as his pillars of strength.’
Looking back, Abhishek realizes that NSS was not just an extracurricular activity—it was a transformational experience. It taught him that when we step forward with a selfless spirit, society not only accepts us but also uplifts us.
Today, as he recalls the proud sight of the Tricolour soaring high at the Red Fort on Independence Day 2025, Abhishek feels blessed that his small steps of service led him to stand as a representative of his state and institution on the nation’s biggest stage.

“This is not the end of my story—it is only the beginning. Because once a Volunteer, always a Volunteer.” – Abhishek H. Mehta ,NSS Volunteer–GEC- Patan
