Anand: A serious case of negligence by the Anand District Supply Department has come to light. At its Borasad Chowkdi warehouse, broken ventilation windows have long allowed pigeons to nest inside, contaminating and spoiling stored food grains.

Large quantities of pigeon droppings and feathers have been found mixed with open stacks of food grains inside the warehouse. It has also been alleged that dead pigeons were found earlier in the same facility; however, no corrective action has yet been taken by the department.
According to local sources, the same spoiled food grains are being supplied to fair price shops under the Public Distribution System (PDS). These grains ultimately reach poor and middle-class families, raising serious concerns about hygiene, food safety, and the overall integrity of the ration distribution system.
Despite earlier complaints submitted to the District Supply Officer regarding this matter, no visible action has been initiated so far. The department’s continued inaction has drawn sharp criticism from the public.
The pressing question now is whether the authorities will act on this serious issue or let contaminated grains keep reaching the plates of the poor through the rationing system.
